Liverpool have been long-time admirers of Anthony Gordon from afar for many years, with Gordon’s entourage being made aware of interest as far back as 2022. Both parties had bounds of admiration for one another but were in agreement that a move from local rivals Everton would be seen as near impossible. Later on that year, Gordon went on to sign for Newcastle United in early 2023, with the little boy from Kirkdale set for his first ever move away from home. Until a year later, when Newcastle were struck with PSR issues that led them to offer Anthony Gordon’s services to his boyhood club.

A deal bound to be complicated was on the verge of completion until NUFC found solutions elsewhere, leading Liverpool to hold their nerve in the transfer window. Luis Diaz, who is subject to interest from multiple clubs, including FC Barcelona & multiple sides in the Saudi Pro League, has made the club aware that he would be happy to move on should Liverpool receive a sizeable fee in return. Liverpool’s deal with Newcastle over Gordon had the possibility of Joe Gomez departing the club to head to Tyneside. This still cannot be ruled out, with the possibility of Liverpool involving players in deals as big as one like Anthony Gordon could play profit to their financial balance books. Jarell Quansah also is a topic of interest in Newcastle.

The question remains, will Luis Diaz leave Liverpool? As reported, Liverpool are not looking to either sell or renew the Colombian. Which leads to a belief that the club will only entertain serious offers for the winger after Liverpool recently rejected FC Bayern Munich’s approach to understand Cody Gakpo’s situation. Anfield hierarchy are serious fans of Anthony Gordon, with the exit of a previous no longer considered local legend. You could see the room fitting nicely for a player who loves his city & club, like Anthony Gordon would with his boyhood club Liverpool. Newcastle would demand a fee upwards of £50m; it also wouldn’t come as a surprise if Anthony exercised his transfer request in order to facilitate a move to the Premier League Champions.
